Nonfiction
- The Complete Book of Scriptwriting by J. Michael Straczynski, B5's creator, is a guide to the world of writing for television, theater, and movies. The sample script in the appendix is the unabridged shooting script for the Hugo-award-winning episode "The Coming of Shadows."
- Babylon 5 Security Manual by Jim Mortimore. A handbook for rookie members of B5's security team, including station maps, lifeform listings, and technical information.
- The Babylon File and The Babylon File: Volume 2 by Andy Lane. An unauthorized guide to the show, including an episode listing, behind-the-scenes information, and background on the B5 universe.
- Creating Babylon 5 by David Bassom. Originally titled "Babylon 5 Behind the Scenes." All about the production of Babylon 5, from set design to CGI to writing.
- The A-Z Guide to Babylon 5 by David Bassom. An alphabetical B5 encyclopedia with information on alien races, historical incidents, and characters, all cross-referenced with attributions to episodes.
- Babylon 5 Season by Season by Jane Killick. One book per season, this series details the episodes and the overall story arc, and includes comments from cast and crew members.
- Signs and Portents covers season one and includes a foreword by Michael O'Hare and information on the making of the pilot movie.
- The Coming of Shadows covers season two and includes a section titled "By Any Means Necessary: Making Babylon 5 on a Budget" which details the show's innovative money-saving techniques.
- Point of No Return covers season three and includes a chapter on B5's special effects.
- No Surrender, No Retreat covers season four and includes a chapter titled "Script to Screen" covering the lifecycle of an episode.
- Wheel of Fire Covers season five. Supplementary material unknown.

- The Parliament of Dreams: Conferring on Babylon 5 is a collection of academic essays from a conference sponsored by The Science Fiction Foundation in 1998.
